Yesterday kicked off the trial of an 89-year-old former Nazi guard. Despite health concerns expressed by the family of the Ukrainian-born man, John Demjanjuk, the US allowed him to be extradited in May for his trial in Munich.
Some people may argue that over 60 years have passed which is too much time for this to remain relevant considering the outcome; others may claim that the man was simply following orders. But all of that fails to hold water when the prosecution claims that 28,000 deaths would not have been possible without this man, calling him one of the most "enthusiastic participants in the camp's policy of mass murder."

Because the man was a one time Soviet Red Army soldier captured by the Nazis in 1942, trained and transferred to Sobibor to work as a guard, the defense is arguing that Demjanjuk was a Nazi prisoner.
