Radovan Karadzic is the former Bosnian Serb leader accused of genocide and crimes against humanity. Prosecutors allege that the man "orchestrated the 43-month siege of the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo." He is also accused of massacring as many as 8,000 Muslims. The man was finally captured in 2008 after ranking as "one of the world's most wanted fugitives" for 13 years.November 30, 2009 - Radovan Karadzic files "a motion with the U.N. war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, challenging the legitimacy of the court to prosecute him."
The trial was scheduled to begin this past October, but delays backed the proceedings up until they could get Karadzic to show up.

This was countered with stern patience by the presiding judge, O-Gon Kwon, who told Karadzic that it would be in his "best interest to attend and participate fully in the trial so that justice can be done."
Karadzic did in fact show up and that brings us all up to date.
Apparently, he feels he must challenge the prosecution out of some "moral duty in the light of history."
I guess somewhere along the way, possibly after spending 13 years as a fugitive, wanted for genocide and war crimes, a guy will really stop to assess a situation. I'm glad he's decided to take a stand here for the sake of morality, of course.
The proceedings will take a 3 month recess. More to come in March, if Karadzic's moral compass guides him back.
