To Smear or Not to Smear, That is the Question.

Chris Christie, republican candidate in the NJ Gubernatorial race, has been presented with quite a dilemma. As Election Day nears, the republican has found his once 10 point lead virtually eliminated according to recent polls. While Jon Corzine has helped to even this race up with his self-funded ads attacking Chris Christie, the bigger culprit here would seem to be the dreaded independent candidate.
Chris Daggett has been slowly gaining in the polls and recently managed to break into double digit figures. It has been obvious that many New Jersey voters are not satisfied with the incumbent governor and would like to show their discontent by casting their vote elsewhere. Chris Daggett seems to fit the bill, and GOP national leaders have decided to set their sites on Daggett.

Mr. Christie, is not so certain that attack ads are they way to go. By running ads, he would be legitimizing the independent while giving him free publicity. On the other hand, doing nothing could also present a problem for the wavering Christie campaign.

Dilemma, Dilemma. Corzine and Christie are neck and neck down the stretch with fewer than 20 days to go. There is literally no room for error here.
