Obama Calls Process "Messy", Taliban Claims Victory

The presidential election in Afghanistan has been extremely "messy" but no need to worry, President Karzai has vowed to clean up the very government he helped to create. It's a shame he wasn't willing to clean anything up during the election.

President Karzai received congratulations from western leaders since the runoff election was cancelled; the challanger, Abdullah Abdullah, removed himself from the race due to concerns of fraud (full story). Who can blame him since at least 1.3 million fraudulent votes were discovered after the first round?

Taliban leaders have been working hard to use the event to further their cause, releasing the following statement:

The cancellation of the second round of the election showed that decisions on Afghanistan are made in Washington and London, while the announcements are made in Kabul.

What is astonishing is two weeks ago they were arguing that the puppet president Hamid Karzai was involved in electoral fraud … but now he is elected as president based on those same fraudulent votes, Washington and London immediately send their congratulations.

The Taliban claims that their threats of violence were the reason the runoff elections were cancelled. Karzai claims he is committed to making progress in peace negotiations with the Taliban in the future.
