Keeping it Classy

Bookmark and Share
When your children ask you why they have to study history, you now have a better answer than the old standby's: "because I said so," or "you'll thank me for it later." Recent "Tea-Party" protests have turned up as a reaction to Obamacare, and these protesters, much like all good protesters, come equipped with the wittiest signs they can muster:

Let's Zoom in on This One:

That's Right, Piles of Dead Jews, Dachau, Germany circa 1945

So your response to the objection of education should be:
You need to study history so that when the times comes for you to take a position in a future debate you can make a valid and COMPLETELY RELEVANT point; and your argument may be made without exploiting a few hot button historic events, resulting in the preservation of shocking lessons for future generations rather than a desensitization to the horrific events of our past.
Seriously, every person that pisses you off is not the reincarnation of Hitler. How entitled must we Americans be that we feel a need to liken any of our leaders to a genocidal maniac because of an ideological difference?

Can we all agree that the Hilter references are exhausted and usually not very relevant?

For this very reason I have begun work on a new reference manual titled "Thesauras for the Shock-Value Protester".
