BREAKING NEWS: Glenn Beck ACTUALLY Makes a Valid Point!

It would be hard to believe that a news commentator could draw a parallel between President Obama's promotion of community service and communist China, but Glenn Beck is always full of surprises. The following clip can be quite arduous but after about 4 minutes of nonsense Mr. Beck actually raises an interesting point, volunteerism should not be a chore.

While Mr. Beck comes off like the pompous jack-ass that is just searching for something shocking to say, the clip raises some interesting points. Lost somewhere in his hateful speech between the communist China remark and the visual of 'Obama the Giant' squashing people in his hand, you will find some true nuggets of wisdom.  

First, Ashton Kutcher and Disney feel the need to bribe people into donating their time. While I do applaud the efforts of Mr. Kutcher and Disney, even though they are probably getting plenty in exchange (tax incentives, good press, etc.) the fact remains that the American people should not need any motivation to help their fellow man in need, a greater sense of accomplishment and good will should be enough.

The second and possibly more tragic point here is that our government seems to believe that the most effective way to influence us is through sitcoms. Have the American people become so mindless and lazy that the only way to reach out to them is through The Office and CSI? Honestly, the American public should be insulted by this message, a farce, which should by all means, bring about an introspective moment for all of us.

This however is not shocking enough for Mr. Beck, so he resorts to manufacturing fear. He takes this story in such a terrible direction that he actually seems to be villianizing volunteerism, and completely misses the concept that in times of need people should naturally feel a stronger sense of community as they band together to help each other through the struggle. Beck actually tries to mock the following efforts as he reads this list with a steady stream of eye-rolls:

• Education
• Community Health
• Environmental Conservation
• Financial Security

Ridiculing financial security efforts during a financial crisis... that's a real heroic effort, kudos Mr. Beck.

As an aside, I would like to re-hatch a previous subject in light of this list of community efforts. After the recent Nervous Laughter post, That's Not Change, That's More of the Same (Only Quieter), how serious can President Obama actually be about 'Environmental Conservation'? I have sent an email questioning the transparency of this decision to Senator Menendez and the White House with no response from either. I urge all readers to do the same.
